The Skokie Alliance for Electoral Reform is a nonpartisan, grassroots movement formed in December 2021 to revitalize democracy and promote inclusive civic engagement in our Village through three referendums to change Skokie’s electoral system: Nonpartisan Elections, Staggered Terms, and Hybrid Representation. On Nov. 8, 2022, Skokie voters chose to pass all three referendums in order to

• Increase and diversify candidates on the ballot 

• Invigorate voter turnout for all local races

• Improve representation and accountability across Skokie 

The Alliance was also involved in the implementation of the three referendums, offering research, partnership, and support to the Village Manager and advocating for an inclusive and transparent process.

The Alliance will continue to conduct public civic education and outreach to ensure socialization of our new electoral system and to encourage Skokie citizens to get involved. Any funds raised will go toward creating materials for public education and outreach.
